Our Story

“We started as just a small hobby shop working on sand rails and dune buggies during my high school days. We hadn’t always intended to get into this aspect of the business, it was just building turn key cars to support the budgets of our own hobby. However, the more of this we did the more I fell in love with it. Those days were a little simpler of course, my dad had years of experience and the first project had just kind of fallen into our lap as I was looking for offroad (you will see this “typo” everywhere on our site because that is how we chose to style the name, so I won’t spell it differently elsewhere) toys of my own. That was 15 years ago that I turned my first wrench on a buggy.

Until now though I have always needed the supporting job to pay the bills and it has taken too much of my time, and stopped me from truly launching DURT WURX to what I have envisioned. I decided during the down swing we have been in with COVID, I was going to swing for the fences and stop working for someone else, the time has finally come and DURT WURX will rise from the other side of the pandemic as the “Cinderella Story” among so many small businesses going the other way. With one heck of a supporting cast behind me (my stepmom who is my business partner, my father who volunteers his time to answer my phones and give me ideas in the shop, and my wife who keeps my home life together), and some help from you of course, I think we can, in time, turn DURT WURX into a powerhouse in the offroad industry, and not just one division of that but all of it.

So what is it I envision for DURT WURX? I envision a full offroad shop. Some shops offer lift kits for trucks and big tires and wheels, some shops offer stuff for side by sides, quads, dirt bikes and such, and of course there is my normal arena, the buggy shop. I say why can’t one shop do it all? Why be DURT WURX Offroad and only service one area or vehicle? So I started with adding parts for what I know, and we currently offer buggy parts and some UTV parts through our distributorships with EMPI and DNA Motors. I do have access to some aftermarket parts for trucks through DNA as well. I am always looking for other companies and have some that just need my showroom to be finished and they have already given me the go ahead as soon as pictures are sent in. I am also always open for suggestions as well, so if there is a wonderful product you think we should keep on the shelves, I would be glad to hear it.

As an added bonus, we have a large lot NE of Lake City which sits less than a mile from multiple points of entry to the trails in Missaukee County, which also allows you to travel non-state roads in the shoulder at 25 m.p.h. with an ORV tag. What this means for you, is that we offer parking for you to come and offload your toys and hit the trails. These trails will take you as far as the Mighty Mack! So come see us, check out our current projects, what we have in inventory and then go for a beautiful trail ride.

Some promises from myself and the cast of DURT WURX:

  • Our first priority is helping the customer. We will do that however we feel we can do so. We never want to be one of those shops that gets so big that you feel like a burden when you call and need some tech support on your build. We may not have all the answers but we will do our best to find them for you.

    • If there is one thing we are good at it is finding used parts to meet the needs of a build, so don’t hesitate to get ahold of us and ask if you are having trouble finding something, we are always glad to help.

  • You won’t pay a penny over MSRP with us. We want to see everyone riding, so we want to be as competitively priced as possible. We have been doing builds for a long time, and through an awesome partnership with Jim Whelpley we have had access to vendor pricing lists for a long time. I have seen multiple shops advertise a higher price on the MSRP than the true MSRP, so they look like a hero with the “generous” sales price, that is actually MSRP or even a couple cents more. When you see our list price, that is MSRP. In fact, EMPI (www.empius.com) has done a serious overhaul of their site, and they now list MSRP right on the site, so you can always compare and feel free to give us a shout if you catch a discrepancy . If you see a sale price, that is us offering a better price than the competition. Actual sales will only come in the form of promo codes.

As always, be safe and have fun out there.”
